David Cross is best known for his work on, Mr. Show with Bob and David, a free-associative sketch comedy program which frequently veered (after many twists and turns) into political satire. David is also a columnist for Vice Magazine, and his latest CD, Shut Up You Fucking Baby has been nominated for a Grammy award. Needless to say, we were pretty excited when he agreed to sit down for an interview with MFA. Mike and Jason met up with David one afternoon at Tompkins Square Park, where they got him to wax philosophic about the fine line between angry and funny in political humor, the failure of the protest movement and the shrill, 60’s ethos that guides it and, perhaps most importantly, the dangers of pigeon poop when filming in a public park.
