“…shall not be allowed to serve food to an person who is obese.”
By Bill Jablonski~Puppetgov
The incremental slide into a controlled “nanny state” continues in America and nobody seems to notice. Nobody seems to care.
Factories rain millions of pounds of toxic pollution into the air we breathe and subsequently poison our water supplies but heaven help you if you want to unwind with a smoke to accompany your drink at the local bar. You see, Big Brother thinks that is unhealthy and now socially unacceptable. The government has taken on the role of “behavior police.”
Most non-smokers seemed to rejoice at the decision unaware that it will be just a matter of time before they too are told how to behave as well. Something they enjoy may soon be outlawed.
Take for example the Associated Press article which reported a St. Louis-area town that is actually considering a bill that would ban swearing in bars.
This harkens back to Tipper Gore’s crusade against the music industry with the PMRC, a music censorship organization. The problem then and now is who decides what words are acceptable and which one are not. In 1985, musician Frank Zappa took on the PMRC when he testified before the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee. Zappa later went head to head with the hosts of CNN’s Crossfire discussing music and “acceptable & unacceptable words.”
The Chicago city council decided that goose liver or foie gras is no longer a choice for diners in the windy city. If they are really concerned about the inhumane force-feeding of birds then why did they stop there? Why not go after the much larger and real problem of Factory Farming?
Now there is a bill that was recently introduced in Mississippi’s state legislature that would prohibit restaurants from serving people the government determined to be obese.
If passed, House Bill 282 would require restaurants to follow guidelines set by the state’s health department to determine a customer’s obesity, banning those considered too fat to serve. A copy of the bill can be read here: HB 282-1.
People laughed years ago when they said they would outlaw smoking in bars. Politicians did it and they will continue to try and tell all of us how to behave unless we finally start standing up for our individual rights and tell the government to keep it’s nose out of our personal business.
How free of a society are we if our elected officials dictate our so-called freedoms. Question is, when will we have had enough?

My brother told me of a group of people who called themselves “Chemicalers.” They liked splashing harmful. toxic chemicals on themselves because of the sensation it gave them. They enjoyed it. They liked doing this as often as they could, often in public places with other non-chemicalers. Sometimes the harmul, toxic chemicals would splash onto non-chemicalers, who would complain. “This is my right to do whatever I want,” said the chemicalers.
To say that non-smokers will one day be targeted for the things they like is one of the most stupid things I have ever heard, unless you are talking about mass murdering non-smokers. Or non-smokers who are members of NAMBLA.
So smoke all you want in your home. Smoke a lot. It takes a real tough man to die of lug cancer. Just ask my Grandmother. She was tough as nails.
To equate non-smoking laws with a nanny state is lunacy. Spoken like a true addict. Well done.
Only one thing to say, Praise the Lord & keep the powder dry!
We’ve had smoking bans in Australian bars and restaurants for a while now. As a non-smoker I love it, but one effect we’ve seen where I live is the collapse of live entertainment in bars as the smokers either don’t go, or spend much of their time outside and don’t buy as much booze. The knock-on has been a fall in employment in these industries, musicians, waiters, bar staff etc. I like these laws, but ultimately its not about me, its about us and I don’t support these kins of laws.
“Lug cancer” … *laughs*
No, this isn’t a free country. I’m not sure that it’s ever been free – however as a SMOKER – I have NEVER minded waiting until I was outside or at my residence to smoke. Personally, I think cigarette smoke stinks. Now “Anon” (since you were too skeered to give your real name), how’s that for an “addict’s” opinion? :-p
I have to agree with Hunseker though — we need to watch the additives the government is having added to our food. Think about this for a minute (those of you who are older than 30): 12 year old girls do NOT look the same now as they did when we were growing up. Do you think that the growth hormone stops at the cow or corn-stalk? Hello? Our bodies break down and process these foods – that INCLUDES the additives. It’s no wonder that little kids are doing “grown-up” things so early in life — their bodies ARE grown. WAKE UP, FOLKS!!!!
Obviously (at least it should be obvious), we (individuals) need to step up and take responsibility for everything we do – not wait for the government to enforce even MORE laws on us – and take responsibility for what we eat – and what we smoke – and do.
Hell, just wait until Christmas when Santa is forced, by law, to eat the carrot and the reindeer get the cookies. Who the hell wants a thin Santa?
What’s wrong, do people above size 8 spoil the ambience?
Get with it will you? Leave the people alone!
I’ve said it before and I’ll repeat it now. America is a police state with a dictatorship governing it.
Free yourselves, now, before it’s too late.
Thnak you to all who stand up; right or wrong, someone had to start.
I am all for human rights, and a countries rights, but where is there a list of INDIVIDUAL rights?
Seems this boils down to INDIVIDUALS applying there own rules and it comes from being INDIVIDUALS.
We get this from going outside our own home, town, city, state, country, continent, tv station, language, company, even our road systems, it’s all different, because we are different.
Who’s rules are right and who gets the right to rule? That should be a rule you have to put in front of every home and business in the world, oh wait a minute, didn’t they have that thown out in the sixties…the Lord’s prayer, not my will… but thine…?
Your Fake Neo-Libertarian Messiah Ron Paul will not lead you to your promised land of Libertarian Freedoms. Fact is, based on his voting records and statements you find here http://www.issues2000.org/TX/Ron_Paul.htm your false leader is a right wing authoritarian http://politicalcompass.org/usprimaries2008
All of Ron Paul’s supporters here sincerely need to take a look his public statements and voting record proving that not only is he not a right wing Libertarian with a NeoLibertarian platform you all claim to support, but based on this voting record of his, he’s indeed a right wing authoritarian akin to Bush and yes, Hitler..
Ron Paul on the Issues from Statements and Voting Record
* He’s ardently anti-choice, which should make anyone question whether he’s a genuine Libertarian. He has managed to concoct a rationalization around the rights of fetuses, but it strikes me as labored (and his invocation of Terri Schiavo doesn’t help here, either)..
* He’s earned a 76% rating from the Christian Coalition. an organization that makes a point of opposing all things socially progressive.
* He voted NO on allowing embryonic stem cell research. (May 2005) This doesn’t tell you all you need to know, but it tells you a lot that it’s helpful to know.
* Voted YES on banning Family Planning funding in US aid abroad.
* Voted NO on requiring lobbyist disclosure of bundled donations. (May 2007) Because, you know, he’s worried about corporatism.
* Voted NO on campaign finance reform banning soft-money contributions. (Feb 2002) Because he’s terribly concerned about politicians being in bed with the big money.
* Voted NO on banning soft money and issue ads. (Sep 1999)
* Voted YES on building a fence along the Mexican border. (Sep 2006)
* Voted NO on increasing the minimum wage to $7.25. (Jan 2007) You can really begin to sense his rage at exploitative big business here, can’t you?
* Voted NO on “network neutrality.†(Jun 2006)
* Voted NO on allowing telephone monopolies to offer Internet access. (Feb 2002)
* He supports a Constitutional Amendment for school prayer. Because there’s nowhere left in America where you can go to pray, I guess.
* YES on “protecting†the Pledge of Allegiance.
* YES on vouchers for private & parochial schools.
* He’s rated at 5% by the League of Conservation Voters, indicating a strongly anti-environment record.
* NO on raising Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards and incentives for alternative fuels.
* NO on prohibiting oil drilling & development in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
